My Favorite Long Torso Bathing Suits For Tall Women (From a 6'4" Mom of 2)

My Favorite Long Torso Bathing Suits For Tall Women (From a 6'4" Mom of 2)

"I am turning 40 this summer and I wanted something bright and tropical. I want to feel sexy and comfortable but more importantly, not worry about my suit and just have fun!" - Jordan Smith 6'4"

I have been over 6 feet tall since I was 13 years old and finding clothing in general has been difficult, but one piece bathing suits have been impossible to find. Even so called "tall" retailers or "long torso" suits don't seem to work for me and my 6 foot 4 body. I had become frustrated and given up on them. But now that I am older, I just don't feel like chasing my kids around the beach or pool in a bikini for fear of "things" slipping out. So I went on the search again. I have tried quite a few over the last 2 years and here are what I have found.

The first suit that I found was this tankini set on Amazon from Dokotoo. I bought the black and white version first and ended up buying the hot pink version too because I loved the black and white one so much. This set comes in a variety of colors and patterns to choose from.  It is a two piece tankini set that looks like you are wearing a sports bra with a muscle tank... but cute! It comes with a regular bikini tie bottom that I didn't actually use. I ended up finding a couple of cute skirted bottoms that I paired with it (check those out below). I love this tankini because it is kind of flowy and allows for longer torsos without having to constantly tug on it to cover up. It is flowy in the front and the sides are open up so you don't feel like you are completely covered, which is great for the hot summers here in Texas. I got a lot of compliments on this suit. I love that it is very forgiving in the tummy area, which is my concern. For me, it makes me feel like I am wearing a bikini but its covering up my problem area.

The next option I found was this AnnJo crocheted tankini set on Amazon. It is very long in the torso and is crocheted so it allows you to stay cool, plus it is super cute! It comes in many colors too, I got the bright blue one last year and the red one this year. The bottoms fit fine, but not enough coverage for me so I buy separate bottoms to pair with it as well (see below). I don't have a picture of it on me but believe me at 6'4" it was long enough for me.

My next finds are from Mirasol Swimwear on Etsy. Now first of all, getting custom clothing is always a gamble but I read a review from a 6'2" girl and decided to give it a shot! Mirasol makes custom swimwear and let me tell you...they are all amazing! They are high quality and flattering. The best part about getting a custom suit is that you get it to fit your body, it's not a one size fits all situation. I am a curvy woman with a 41 inch bust, 34 inch waist and 46 inch hips so it can be difficult to find suits to fit properly. I am a size 12 up top, a size 10 in the waist and either a 12 or 14 on the bottom... it all depends on the store. It is so hard!!!

So all I did was pick out the style from her store, chose the fabric color I wanted and then sent her my measurements. I went with black to start with as I spend a lot of time with my girls at the pool all summer and I just think it is a good basic one to have. Plus I was still unsure of how much I would like it at this point. Let me tell you I almost cried when I put it on. I mean...I think the last one piece bathing suit I had was when I was 12 years old. Luckily I was an athlete for most of my youth so I was able to pull off a two piece bikini. As a mother things change, not only has my body changed but I just want to cover up a bit more now. That's just me personally. This suit covers me up and I don't have to tug and pull and worry about anything because it actually fits my body and flatters it! You will not regret it, trust me! Finally my last bathing suit was from Mirasol as well and I decided to go colorful! I am turning 40 this summer and I wanted something bright and tropical. I want to feel sexy and comfortable but more importantly, not worry about my suit and just have fun!

Here are some of the bottoms that have paired well with the above tankinis. They all come in a variety of colors. (Each picture contains the link to go to Amazon so you can shop that product.)

I hope this blog helped you find some options for you as the beautiful tall woman that you are. I hope I didn't come off as body shaming myself, I just want to cover up certain parts so that I am comfortable but not everyone is the same as me and I understand that. If I felt comfortable in a tiny bikini, believe me I would wear it. ;) Good luck ladies and go play with your kids on the beach without worry. It is important to love ourselves now!

Do you think the dokotoo would work for maternity? The only thing worse than getting a tall bathing suit is finding a tall maternity version!

Thank you so much for your blog! I can soooo relate to this!!! I’ve been over 6 feet tall, since I was 12! I’m a mom of three boys, and I just turned 40 myself. That’s great, if some women want to wear bikinis, but we shouldn’t feel like we HAVE to, especially after giving birth! I will definitely look into your suggestions! I’m 6’3”, and 195 pounds. I was made to feel “fat” growing up, because I wasn’t a size 2, like my 5 foot tall friends. So glad I learned what a healthy weight for a tall lady is! And now that I’m 40, I don’t care anymore, LOL! God bless you, my tall sista!
